About the Story

Let me start off by saying, this story is not going to be for children. While I usually introduce myself as a children's writer, I keep myself open to all age groups and really, I will write for anyone. The story is what determines the age group.

For The Dailin Children [tentative title], it is for YA-Adults. It is still very fantasy based, but my intentions with the story is to make a little bit of a "point" too. There is definitely a few themes I'm incorporating into the story. It's not my usual "free lance for fun!"

At first glance, first page first chapter it is going to seem a little happy-go-lucky, as will the basic characters, but... I definitely want to get it through to the readers as they go that first impressions can be very deceiving. This is NOT going to be a happy story... and I will consider my job well done if it sticks in someone's mind and messes with them even just a little.

Another point that I'm going to make as you scroll down and read further - I haven't even BEGUN writing this story. I have a "story sketch" as I call it where I sorta write up a short intro to the story that kinda gives me the basic feel for it. However, what does this mean? You will notice that I don't even have names for some of the characters. I haven't even made a world or an actual "story". It's all in PURE NOTE FORM! and completely subject to change.

Story Objective

"Demon? I'm not a demon, am I? What is a demon, anyway? Maybe I am and I just don't know it. Or is it a demon that is inside of me? So, does that still make me a demon, too? Are his sins mine? Or have I created my own sins?"

"Is redemption something I can even dream about?"

The story follows main character Billy (again, possible name change). He is part of a family named the Dailins (this may change, too). At the beginning of the world, one of the Gods that were placed in protection went mad, and began to do everything within his power to not just destory the universe but to make it so that it, he, and everyone within were never even created.

It would be impossible to kill him. He is a God and killing a God would be to destroy the universe anyway. So, the other Gods sealed him within an amulet - and this his lineage is forced to bear. However, Elgathor is not silent and has cast his curse among his children. Whispering in all their minds, sending them to the depths of insanity, but none feel it quite so hard as the one who has been chosen to wear the amulet.

The royal family has fallen, and Billy, only sixteen, now wears the amulet. Traveling the world, he does his best to ignore Elgathor and tries to ponder his own meaning. Maybe it really would just be easier to kill himself and to end the Dailin line.

He is not the only one pondering his death. While the main family has been reduced to one, there are the other unlucky half-breed Dailins that still feel the curse of Elgathor. What if the last of the bearers WERE to die? Could it be possible that they would at least acheive peace and be able to pick up what remnants of their lives they still have? Or... is redemption out of reach for them?

Cast alone, hated, feared, and full of sin... what future does a Dailin child have anyway?

The World and Settings

I loosely have a basic design for the world. As I mentioned in the Writer's Corner, this story is being torn from a much prettier one. Call it the "darker side" of that original tale. I will have to do some editing since in order to acheive full effect a few things have to be altered to the original. Places will change and basic local history. Places will be VERY important in this story. Billy is traveling and meeting others. Locations, local history, and the present Dailins in the area are going to have a big impact. Honestly, I'm not even going to bother with a map. It will change according to the stories' needs and the points I want to mention.

However, a lot of the settings will take place in the characters' minds. Call them "rant sections".

And, it is a "fantasy". There is definitely magic present in the stories. The Dailins are the descendants of a God. They can do things that most can't. Such as being able to kill people with one spoken word and so forth. There is definitely magic present, but it is not a big "fact" and is something you just sorta accept in the story.

Characters

Billy Dailin - main character. The current "Dailin Lord". Sixteen years old. His parents have just been murdered by an anti-Dailin group and he barely escaped. With the death of his parents and the empty void it left anyway, he must also deal with the maniacle Elgathor who enjoys playing on Billy's suffering. He has NEVER welcomed his destiny and has lived with his mother's constant matra "I'm sorry I gave birth to you."

Elgathor - second main character. A "voice" that is always there, completely bodiless. Sometimes it's hard for Billy to determine whether his thoughts are his own or if they are the thoughts of Elgathor. (Yes, be prepared to be confused in some parts!) It's hard sometimes for Billy to even be sure if it were his friends speaking or if Elgathor just tricked him again. So, what did happen to Elgathor to make him this way? What is this mysterious God's story? He is a "soft maniacle." He doesn't/can't do anything to bodily hurt the Dailins, but he has the power of speech and knows the Dailin's deepest darkest secrets. It is, odd, though. It does seem every once in a while that Elgathor CAN influence things to happen.

Tiana Dailin - the first character Billy meets. You can call most of the Dailins "main characters" since there will be a lot of backstory and there will be a handful, like Tiana, that follow Billy. Has no idea who Billy is, though Billy knows she is a Dailin - he can feel auras. He doesn't really know where she came from or anything about her but she does not mention home, wakes up screaming at night, and Elgathor seems to enjoy her prescence among the group (that can't be good). However, despite this, she is a very cheerful seeming person... and perhaps if Billy were in any better a situation, he might actually date her. *Minute spoiler* Whatever her past is, she will confide in Billy later that it is her intention to find the last of the Dailin Royals and kill him - just to see what happens. ... Maybe... she will be free.

[Steven] - (name subject to change). Randomly appears throughout the story at the oddest of times. He's not a Dailin. Nor does he stick around for any length of time, though he does have an important part to play later on. Is a thief and usually happens upon Billy when he's practicing his art - when Billy's in the most oddest of situations. Definitely a skirt chaser and can't keep his hands off Tiana. (He will also be the sorta "comedy relief". It is a dramatic story but too much and you're over killing it. He is sorta there to "reset" the reader's emotions and to prep them for the next round. Though, as I said, he will later become a more important character than that.)

Other characters will appear later on and while they don't have names they are "present" in the form of their backstories that I have planned, such as one child who tore out his own voice box to stop himself from harming others with it.

Writer's Corner

Honestly, I've been working on this story for a lot longer than I say that I have. My first "ever" character: I've always kept her and the basic prinicipals surrounding her, but I dropped her or at least the thought of publishing her stories sometime around the beginning of High School. She and her story are always a nice thought in the back of my mind.

What does she have to do with this story? While the original stories were centered around her, the problem that is faced by the Dailin children in this version has always been her problem originally. I'm just switching focus a little. Honestly, Billy Dailin is her son. While the stories focused on her, this time I wanted the story to focus around their "condition".

While the story belongs to the area of my first character, I have added in extra elements that have been floating around in my brain for some time now. From songs, to other story tidbits that never made it. It's sort of a stew pot right now, and I haven't even turned the oven on to really start cooking.

The only thing I do know about this story at this point is that it's NOT going to be a very happy one. Nor is it for children. That much so far, is certain.
